After Cate rejected his offer - puzzling in the light of its generosity - he realized he wasn't going to get the best unless he played by her rules. So he agreed to a preliminary interview, with the officer in charge of the investigation - sharing all pertinent information. He is confident of her acceptance, now that he's agreed to do things her way.
